It seems that now, more than ever before, it's popular to be a conspiracy theorist. You can't watch a political video on Youtube or visit a political message board without a fairly sizable group of people mentioning how the machinations of the 'Illuminati', 'New World Order', or 'Zionists' is clear for all to see. These terms have been popularized by certain popular personalities like Alex Jones and the late Bill Hicks but there's more to it than this.
We live in a post-Watergate world and a post Area 51 world. People are probably more weary of their government than ever before in U.S history. This is perfectly understandable. It's logical to believe that politics is full of corrupt people out for money and/or power. This has been historically proven. What's not logical is to take the word of a few madmen without any real evidence and blowing it all up into some massive worldwide conspiracy led by satanists, jews, aliens or whatever.
Conspiracy theories aren't just annoying, they're dangerous. Like we've seen with the attempted assassin of Giffords, there is no shortage of lunatics who take this stuff DEADLY seriously. Let's examine our government or governments logically and certainly with scrutiny but let's refrain from chalking it all up to supposedly ancient conspiracies that some drug abusing musician claims to be fact. Until I'm provided evidence for the existence of these international supervillain organizations (evidence beyond, my uncle worked for them a while back) I will continue to be a 'blind sheep' and I will continue to view my politicians as individuals. Individuals that are mostly corrupt and greedy, sure, but individuals none-the-less and not members of Cobra or S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Baaaaah!
